Return of firearms to the public
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is seeking policy examples related to the return/release of firearms to members of the public. Specifically, does your agency have any policies related to field contacts, whereby a firearm (regulated or non-regulated) is located but no crime has occurred and the weapon is returned ~ what steps do the Officers take prior to releasing the weapon back to the member of the public, are there reporting requirements related to the temporary seizure of the firearm?
